Only 90 minutes drive from Melbourne but a totally different world. The gentle hamlet of Flinders, on the southwestern tip of the Mornington Peninsula is the end of the road where your life starts again.

Flinders sits on the left hand tip of Westernport Bay, protected from the harshness of Bass Strait’s weather by West Head Promontory and surrounded by tranquil farmland as far as the eye can see. An unassuming little town, you’ll discover that it is the perfect getaway from the stresses and strains of city life. No wonder it has been an exclusive holiday destination for Melbourne families for generations.

It is easy to access Flinders from any of Melbourne’s eastern, southern or northern suburbs. Thanks to the East Link and the Frankston by-pass, you can be out of the city and sitting on your front verandah looking out at the ocean in less than 90 minutes.

The town itself has less than 1,000 permanent residents and everything is just a gentle stroll or quiet bike ride away.  There is a calmness that flows over you in Flinders and magically washes away the hubbub of 9 to 5.  Suddenly schedules and deadlines will seem far less stressful when you live in this laid back environment.

The temptations are endless.  Brilliant golf courses like Cape Schank, The National and Flinders’own public course are just around the corner. In beach weather, there are gentle pockets of water and sand for children to enjoy. And, if you are a serious swimmer or surfer, you can test your skills in the hard-core surf breaks dotted all along the surrounding coastline. If you are keen on boating, the Flinders Yacht Club on the foreshore is there for off-the-beach dinghies and keelboat sailors; and if you are a fisherman, you will find the waters of Westernport are brim-full of everything from Gummy shark and snapper down to whiting and flathead.

Of course, if that all sounds too much for you, then simply stroll along the beach or stop off at the Flinders Hotel for a tasty meal or a cold glass of ale or wine on your way home.

Flinders – total tranquility.
