Canterbury is regarded as one of Melbourne’s most affluent suburbs, located just 11 kilometres east of the central business district.

Home to a number of notable politicians, leaders of business and industry, and iconic personalities, Canterbury is considered among the most exclusive suburbs in Victoria and has a total population of just under 8,000 residents.

Renowned for its leafy green boulevards and opulent residences, the “Golden Mile” is a term given to a particular part of Mont Albert Road, running west from Balwyn Road to Burke Road. Lined with 152 houses, the Golden Mile is one of the most exclusive and expensive areas in Melbourne where almost every property is valued at $1,000,000 or more.

Among some of the most prestigious streets in the Golden Mile are Monomeath Avenue and Victoria Avenue - two of the most picturesque, tree-lined boulevards with foliage stretching either side of the road that creates a stunning ceiling above.

There are a number of architectural styles in the area including: federation, art deco and Tudor, as well as brand new residences.

Educating children is made easy as Canterbury is home to many of the state’s most historic and prestigious private schools, which include: Camberwell Grammar School, Camberwell Girls Grammar School and Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar School. Other well-regarded schools in the area are Camberwell High School, Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College and Canterbury Primary School.

Enjoy recreational activities and amenities with various parks and gardens in the area. Camberwell Hockey Club is located on Matlock Street and the Canterbury Sports Grounds on Chatham Road is home to cricket and Australian football.

The main shopping precinct in Camberwell is situated around the main railway station, and features a number of retailers and boutiques along Canterbury Road and the charming Mailing Road.

Old oak trees and grand ornate mansions are signature to the area and make Canterbury a suburb richly immersed in history.
