The inaugural winner of the Mornington Peninsula Wine Vineyard of the Year is 100 Hunts Vineyard and the prestigious property is now offered for sale.

The Vaughan family established the 27.5 hectare commercial vineyard at 100 Hunts Road, Tuerong in 1995 after discovering the ideal property on the northern part of the Mornington Peninsula, a very reliable area to grow grapes due to the moderating influence of Westernport and Port Phillip Bay Northern.

100 Hunts Vineyard is recognised as one of the finest established vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula, consisting of Pinot noir, Pinot meunier, Pinot gris, Chardonnay, Fiano, Friulano, Traminer, Muscat a petit grain blanc and Shiraz.

The vineyard is a key supplier to many of the top regional wine producers including Stonier Wines, T’Gallant, Foxeys Hangout, Crittenden Wines, Paringa Estate, Quealy Wines, Kerri Greens, Vino Intrepido and others.

It was selected as one of four finalists, which included Crittenden Estate, Handpicked Wines’ Capella Vineyard and Polperro Winery’s Talland Hill Vineyard. Owner Joe Vaughan impressed the award’s judges by the resourceful, low impact and incredibly thoughtful way he manages the site, vines and soil health. Joe has a passion for regenerative viticulture and a whole of farm approach and is an influential leader in the grape growing and local wine community.

The remarkable north-facing site, which is more than 40 hectares in total, is just an hour from Melbourne via Peninsula Link and close to Balnarring village, Mornington, restaurants, surf and bay beaches.

Immersed in privacy, the single-level four-bedroom, two bathroom plus study home has been consistently renovated over time and most recently in 2020.

The residence, with self-contained accommodation, is wrapped in a garden block with outdoor entertaining and plexi-pave tennis court. A central living and dining domain forms the heart of the home and features engineered oak flooring, a fireplace and terrace access. The stone kitchen features a central island, European appliances and has beautiful garden views.

The property also includes an enviable water supply including an enormous 32 megalitre dam, 3 kilowatt solar electricity system, extensive shedding including a workshop/lunchroom, storeroom, machinery shed and double remote garage. The property also has potential for a new home site towards the northern boundary and the opportunity to employ a vineyard manager while reaping the rewards.

More than 25 years of hard work, expertly cultivating the award-winning vineyard and constantly improving the property as a whole, has paved the way for an exceptional lifestyle and business opportunity on the Mornington Peninsula.

Congratulations to all involved at 100 Hunts Road, an enviable property which is thoroughly deserving of its Mornington Peninsula Wine Vineyard of the Year award.
