There are dozens of charming villages along the Mornington Peninsula coastline and throughout the hinterland. The emergence of boutique fashion, homewares, book shops, galleries and gourmet food emporiums has further added to the popularity of the region as a holiday destination or a permanent lifestyle change. As we head towards Spring and Summer, plan your post lockdown escape to the Mornington Peninsula, indulge in some local retail therapy and support small business.

Cape Merchants

Described as a cool coastal emporium, Cape Merchants in Sorrento is an amazing retail setting you’ll find fashion designed in the store’s own studio, coastal gear, recycled sail accessories and homewares, books, curated vintage pieces, beach gear, outdoor furniture, local gifts and stylish souvenirs. There’s something for everyone at Cape Merchants.

Owner Anna Koren was never going to have run of the mill style and standard stock. She has created an environment loaded with colour and surprise. “I absolutely love it when customers from near and far express joy on entering the non-traditional and constantly evolving retail space we have created. It brings me and the Cape team such joy”.

Cape Merchants is located at 65-67 Ocean Beach Rd, Sorrento.

Mornington Peninsula Chocolaterie

Creating the most popular sweet destinations in Victoria has been the vision of husband and wife team, Ian and Leanne Neeland. Together they’ve built and created Chocolateries in the Yarra Valley, Great Ocean Road and the Mornington Peninsula.

At the decadent petite Chocolaterie in Flinders, visitors can discover thousands of handcrafted chocolates from signature truffles to traditional favourites, watch Chocolatiers at work or indulge in artisan gelato.

Throughout the month of August, warm up with the Chocolaterie’s Hot Chocolate Festival. A selection of eight delicious and exotic flavours will be available in the café each day.

Mornington Peninsula Chocolatarie is located at 46 Cook Street, Flinders.

Home Goods Hardware

Imagine carefully curated pieces from the most unique corners of the world, eclectic and full of character. All deeply considered and brought together in one place for you to forage and fall in love with. From furniture to fashion, gifts to textiles and more, Home Goods Hardware offers beautiful pieces that will invigorate and transform your space, whether it’s country, coast or somewhere in between.

Owner Sara Quin, also founder and creative director of Canvas + Sasson, opened the concept store in December 2019 and was quickly embraced by the Balnarring and broader Mornington Peninsula community.

“We feel privileged to be a part of a community where great value is placed on supporting local business, fresh produce, community events and embracing a relaxed, nourished lifestyle.”

As with most businesses, Home Goods Hardware was forced to close soon after their successful opening. However, during that time, with hard work and ingenuity, the team launched its website offering customers the chance to experience the Home Goods lifestyle 24/7. Explore gift ideas or simply gather inspiration for your next interior project in store or online.

You’ll find Home Goods Hardware at Shop 3, 2-8 Russell Street, Balnarring.
