“Where stories are made and retold time and again”

Venue hire is perhaps the most important consideration in the lead-up to a special-occasion event. For, it is the venue that is integral in creating the desired atmosphere, the foundation upon which the entire celebration is built. Often times, choosing a venue – particularly in a city the size of Melbourne – can prove to be nothing short of overwhelming. Where does one even begin the process? Is the venue big enough, or is it too big? Is it sufficiently centrally located so as to be easily accessible for the majority of guests? If the event is planned outdoors, what if it rains? These are but a few questions which require definitive answers in order to ensure a smooth and successful rollout. Located at 557 St Kilda Road, Ormond Collective is hands down the most versatile and enchanting event space in the city. The most recent addition to The Big Group’s venue arsenal, Ormond Collective is an assortment of beautiful and unassuming historic buildings which embodies a subtle and complementary contradiction. It is simultaneously traditional and chic, frivolous and formal and exudes more distinctive character than should be legally permitted in one location. These heritage-listed buildings were most recently refurbished in 2017, with the art deco décor having been flawlessly preserved and resulting in what could be described as a “refined nostalgia”. Added to this uncompromised aesthetic is a range of space sizes and usages which can transform into whatever event one desires, limited only by the imagination.

Ormond Collective is divided into five distinct self-contained venue spaces: The Hall, Bar Moubray, The Eastern Bar, The Conservatory and The Chapel. A brief description of each structure is appropriate. The Hall, officially named Ormond Hall, was known in the past for its extravagant productions and fantastic entertainment, securing it as an iconic Melbourne venue. Further to this, the stage contained within is actually heritage listed! The Hall lends itself to large gatherings, specialty shows, corporate award nights and excess-laden weddings. It is now available for private functions for the first time in history. Bar Moubray, referred to also as The Western Bar, offers a dark, sultry and sexy backdrop. Wrapped in rich oak paneling, crowned by an ornate ceiling and dominated by a central bar finished in brass, it possesses an allure and character reminiscent of the Prohibition Era. In other words, Bar Moubray commands guests’ attention upon arrival.

Nestled beside Ormond Hall is The Eastern Bar, a charming and delightful canvas which awaits your personalised brushstrokes. Fixed wall seating, brass-edged marble café tables, green Bentwood chairs and decorative lamps make The Eastern Bar one of the more versatile spaces within the collective. It is a hidden gem, of sorts, ready to be discovered, never forgotten and to help create experiences always to be treasured. Surrounded by heritage-listed buildings AND trees, The Conservatory is the ideal setting for indoor-outdoor gatherings. Think indulgent high teas, champagne garden parties and cocktail-dominant celebrations. The surrounding courtyard and gardens imbue this venue space with a natural orientation, resulting in an unparalleled openness and effortless comfort. As such, Mother Nature sees to it that The Conservatory experience is a magical one. Finally, The Chapel is, well, simply and functionally a chapel. It is by no means, however, an ordinary one. The bluestone exterior, high ceilings, long windows, exposed beams, white walls and zigzagged parquetry floor ensure that romance reigns supreme in this, the most sacred of Ormond Collective spaces. It is a one-of-a-kind venue in which to say “I do”, or even to renew.

Ormond Collective, “where stories are made and retold time and again”, is ready to host your next event or special occasion. This genuine treasure of Melbourne is an experience unto itself, and it welcomes guests to combine their own personal, unique touches with the ground’s warmth and charm. With talented styling teams – capable of bringing any idea whatsoever to life – available at The Big Group Creative, this is the beginning of all of your celebration dreams. The end, of course, is up to you. Remember, as the saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
