Despite the obvious challenges in Victoria over the last twelve months, the Mornington Peninsula has enjoyed historically high demand for property, attracting permanent residents, holiday makers and encouragingly, some exciting new businesses.

From restaurants to retail and health and wellbeing, here is a guide to just some of the newcomers calling the Mornington Peninsula home.

Buckley Sorrento

From the team that brought you Bentwood Fitzroy, Glovers Station, My Other Brother and Clubhouse Malvern, comes the highly anticipated Buckley Sorrento.  Given a fresh make over just prior to Melbourne’s lockdown, the café opened its doors with a tempting takeaway menu including Inglewood Coffee, delectable pastries and baguettes. Sorrento residents have had a taste of what is to come, and they cannot wait for the main event.

Buckley Sorrento is located at 174 Ocean Beach Rd, Sorrento.

Higher Ground Yoga

Located in Red Hill, the Higher Ground Yoga studio looks out across the treetops and is a space to connect with nature, energise and refocus.  The team at Higher Ground believe yoga is for everyone (including children), creating positive mental and physical benefits for a healthier, balanced and more fulfilling life.

Classes run daily, with casual bookings and memberships available.

Higher Ground Yoga is located at 1016 Mornington-Flinders Rd, Red Hill.

Plonk and Stink

Two things make life better: wine and cheese. Put them together and you have Plonk and Stink, a cozy new café serving “wine and cheese from the cool south”. The brainchild of David and Karina Reyne, Plonk and Stink is poised to launch in Flinders village and it has already created quite a buzz. This is sure to become a hot spot for locals and visitors alike.

Plonk and Stink is located at 37 Cook St, Flinders.

The Barn

St Andrews Beach Brewery recently opened its new retail space, The Barn. Visitors to the ever-popular Brewery can now shop a wide range of beer and seltzers, fresh produce grown on the property, take home meals created by head chef Andreas Wittwer and a premium merchandise range.

The Barn is located at St Andrews Beach Brewery, 160 Sandy Rd, Fingal.

Yal Yal Estate and Cellar Door

The newest winery to open its doors on the Mornington Peninsula’s wine trail, Yal Yal Estate is causing quite a stir. Launched in March 2021, the impressive Cellar Door offers a fabulous opportunity to visit the vineyard, taste premium Yal Yal wines and enjoy delicious platters sourced from local Mornington Peninsula produce. Set in the picturesque rolling hills of Merricks, the vineyard focuses on low yield, single estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Yal Yal Estate and Cellar Door is located at 21 Yal Yal Rd, Merricks.
