Kay and Burton Flinders Director Andrew Hines will celebrate Father’s Day at home on the Mornington Peninsula with his three children and wife, Cass.

Despite current restrictions, Andrew admits he’s fortunate to still be able to enjoy the lifestyle the Peninsula offers.

“Cass and I are very lucky to access a balanced and healthy schedule while working and schooling the children at home. Our daily exercise varies from beach trails, walks around the golf course and enjoying national parks - all within 5 kilometres of home.”

“Our produce needs are taken care of by delivery from local farm gates and artisan suppliers, and of course the convenience of major supermarkets nearby.”

“And for those occasions when we’re in need of a bit of self-care, we down tools and order dinner from one of the many superb restaurants delivering,” explained Andrew.

Unsurprisingly, now more than ever Andrew reflects on his decision to move to the region 15 years ago, as being the best decision he has made.

After successfully navigating the property market in Melbourne’s prestigious inner east, a new real estate challenge beckoned on the coast.

“I quickly discovered that working in a coastal and rural region depends largely on strong relationships and reputation in the community, and I love that.”

“Real estate here seems less transactional in an asset sense and more about securing the right property to achieve lifestyle goals.”

“When I meet a client considering a coastal move, I often reflect on the motivation which drove my own relocation, and the needs that I had at the time which included the ability to work locally and finding a property we loved which would enable us to enjoy the things we valued.”

“To enjoy a successful career in a region which also enhances your family’s lifestyle is incredible and entirely possible,” he said.

These benefits are clearly not lost on current home buyers either, with property sales remaining strong during what was predicted to be a challenging period.

Working remotely has become the norm and with quality schools on Mornington Peninsula, bay and ocean beaches, premier golf courses, wineries, boutique shopping as well as all the necessary services, it is little wonder this area is experiencing strong demand.

As well as the growing community of permanent residents, the region relies heavily on holiday makers and tourism. No doubt when restrictions are eased, the Mornington Peninsula will become a haven for those seeking a much needed change of scene.

“We have seen properties selling quickly and online, in anticipation of the need for local holiday experiences, rather than interstate and overseas travel.”

This market activity will hopefully help the local community recover from a difficult year. Andrew is passionate about supporting local business to ensure the region continues to thrive.

“It has been heartening and inspiring to see businesses pivoting and adapting to the challenges we’ve faced in 2020.”

“I’ll certainly be spending this Sunday at home, indulging in all the Mornington Peninsula has to offer and supporting as many community businesses as possible.”

So what will Father’s Day in isolation look like for Andrew?

The day will no doubt revolve around food and I’ll ease into it with a light breakfast of pastries from Johnny Ripe before heading out for a walk.

The Cape Schanck coastal walk is a favourite – spectacular views and for those needing to up the ante, stairs to get the heart rate up.

I have a sneaking suspicion Cass and the kids may have done a bit of local online shopping...perhaps a book from Antipodes Book Shop in Sorrento, wine from Yabby Lake or a gift voucher to Peninsula Hot Springs.

My one request for the day was to indulge in a superb long lunch delivered by Ten Minutes By Tractor. They have truly perfected the art of dining in.
